UC Foundation Board of Trustees Elects 7 New Members

CINCINNATI – April 26, 2017 – The University of Cincinnati Foundation Board of Trustees has elected seven new trustees to its 64-member board, including Shimul Shah, MD, and UC alumni Eric Broyles, Bus ’92; Robert Buck, Bus ’70 Jerome (Jerry) Kathman, DAAP ’76; Eva Maddox, DAAP ’66; Greg Tipsord, CEAS, ’90; and Andrea Wiot, Nur ’65. 

“Our new trustees will enhance the UCF board with different perspectives and experiences, and  they bring with them knowledge gained as leaders in the business, design and health care fields,” said Bob Fealy, Bus ’73, chairman of the UC Foundation Board of Trustees. “Our trustees are vital to our mission of supporting UC and UC Health through philanthropy and relationships with our alumni, friends, colleagues, students, foundations and corporations. Each individual trustee will help inspire others to support these great institutions.”

Shimul ShahShah is the associate professor of surgery and director of liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery for UC Health. He is also the first recipient of the James and Catherine Orr Endowed Chair in Liver Transplantation. Before coming to UC in 2012, he was the associate professor of surgery, solid organ transplantation at University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Shah earned his bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and his master’s in health care management from Harvard School of Public Health. Certified by the American Board of Surgery, he was awarded the American Society of Transplant Surgeons Vanguard Award in 2008. In 2015, Dr. Shah received the UC Health Impact Award for his work.

Eric BroylesBroyles received his associate degree in pre-business administration degree in arts from UC Blue Ash College and his bachelor’s degree in from UC’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business. He also earned a JD from the University of Virginia’s School of Law. Broyles is the chief executive officer of ExpertConnect, which provides attorneys, investors and corporations access to leading experts in a variety of subject areas. He is co-founder and a board member of megree, Inc., a social business software company. In 2015, his book, “Encounters with Police: A Black Man’s Guide to Survival” was published. Broyles is a member of the UC Blue Ash Alumni Council. 

Robert BuckBuck, a graduate of the Lindner College of Business, is chairman of Beacon Roofing Supply Inc., one of the largest distributors of residential and non-residential roofing materials and complimentary building products in North America. Before joining Beacon Roofing, he was president of the uniform rental division of Cintas Corporation. Buck is a member of the Lindner College of Business Advisory Council and the CEO Summit. He received the College of Business Distinguished Service Award in 1998 and is a member of UC’s William Howard Taft Society and the McMicken Tower Society. 

Jerry KathmanKathman, a native of Cincinnati, earned his bachelor’s degree from UC’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). He is the president and chief executive officer of Libby, Perszyk & Kathman, the largest independent, global brand design agency in the world with offices in North America, Europe and Asia. He is chairman of the Design Management Institute board and former director of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber board. Kathman has appeared on CNN and CNBC, and been quoted or published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Brandweek, Design Management Review, Die Welt, CB News, and Hong Kong Economic Times. He is a former member of Proudly Cincinnati Campaign Leadership Committees for DAAP and Professional Practice. 

Eva MaddoxMaddox graduated from DAAP with a bachelor’s degree and received an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts in 2006. She is a retired principal of Perkins+Will Branded Environment, which specializes in corporate identity (branding), interior architecture, design and environmental graphics. Maddox is the co-founder and vice chair of Archeworks, a post-graduate school program based on design for social needs. She is a trustee of the Studio Arts College in Florence, Italy, and is in the Interior Design Hall of Fame. Maddox is a UC Foundation emeriti trustee, and a member of UC’s William Howard Taft Society, the Herschede Society, Herman Schneider Legacy Society and the McMicken Tower Society.

Greg TipsordTipsord is chief executive officer of Spellbinders Paper Arts LLC/Journey Blooms, a company that hosts home parties to sell arts and crafts. A graduate of UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science, he founded and served as managing director of the Business Consumer Consulting Group. He previously was senior vice president and general manager of Laundry/HomeCare /International at Henkel Consumer Goods Inc. Tipsord is a former member of the Proudly Cincinnati Campaign Leadership Committee for Arizona. As a student, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, Mortar Board and Sigma Sigma.

Andrea Wiot FinalWiot, a graduate of UC’s College of Nursing, retired from the College of Nursing as a nursing supervisor. Prior to that position, she was a pediatric nurse in the emergency room of University Hospital. Wiot is a former member of the Nursing Board of Advisors, Women’s Club’s Scholarship Committee and was a UC Medical Center Community Partner in 1992. She is a member of the William Howard Taft Society and McMicken Tower Society. 

The trustees will begin their service at the Foundation’s Annual Meeting in October 2017.
