Professor Emeritus Timothy Keener
It is with profound sadness we share with you the passing of Professor Emeritus Tim Keener on April 9, 2018.
Dr. Keener joined the faculty at the University of Cincinnati after earning his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1982. Throughout his career, Dr. Keener sustained a research program of international acclaim. His research covered a variety of air pollution related areas and he led a multi-disciplinary research group studying issues related to energy production. He also held many leadership roles, including Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. He served at many levels in professional organizations and was the recipient of numerous awards. In 2015, shortly after he retired, he won a Fulbright Fellowship and spent 6 months in Thailand, his wife’s homeland.
Dr. Keener placed his family above all else and his joy in them was evident to any who met him. In fact, the first note on his professional CV was “PERSONAL: Married, 2 children”. His wife, Sumana and his daughter Ploy and his son Ben were frequent topics of his conversations. Dr. Keener had an outstanding sense of humor and he loved learning and discovery. After his retirement in 2015, he and his wife explored extensively, whether it be a new restaurant in Cincinnati or the mountains of New Zealand. He was an extraordinary person and will be greatly missed by all of us. Many of us will especially miss his singing in the office suite.
