About Ethics Bowl
Ethics Bowl challenges students to think critically about complex moral questions, develop and defend their own positions and engage respectfully with opposing viewpoints.
Unlike traditional debate, Ethics Bowl is not about defeating an opponent or defending an assigned position. Students examine complex ethical dilemmas, develop well-reasoned positions, listen carefully to opposing perspectives and respond with respect and intellectual honesty. Teams are evaluated not only on the strength of their reasoning, but also on how well they engage with the ideas and arguments of others.
Through preparation and competition, students strengthen skills that extend far beyond Ethics Bowl: critical thinking, ethical reasoning, civil discourse, collaboration and the ability to make thoughtful decisions when there may be no simple right answer.
In just five short years, the Greater Cincinnati Regional High School Ethics Bowl has grown to become one of the largest in the country, consistently earning multiple berths to the divisional rounds. Winning teams advance from regionals to divisionals, where they compete for a place at the National Championship. This progression gives Greater Cincinnati students the opportunity to represent their schools and our region on the national stage.

Support for Ethics Bowl helps us expand access to ethics education and competition for students throughout Greater Cincinnati. Gifts help fund competitions, educational resources, outreach to new schools, student participation and support for teams advancing to divisional and national competition.
At its heart, Ethics Bowl prepares young people for something larger than competition. It teaches them how to wrestle with questions of right and wrong, justice and fairness, character and responsibility—and how to disagree without treating one another as enemies.
