UC Foundation Trustee Gives $1 Million for Nursing Scholarships

Alumna Andi Wiot supports nursing students and student-athletes

CINCINNATI – May 11, 2020 – UC Foundation Trustee Andi Wiot, CON ’65, has made a $1 million gift to create scholarship funds benefiting undergraduate nursing students and student-athletes pursuing a nursing degree.

This generous gift will establish the Andrea K. Wiot Family Scholarship in Nursing Endowment Fund, the Andrea K. Wiot Family Scholarship for a Student Athlete in Nursing Endowment Fund and the UCATS (University of Cincinnati Athletics Team Scholarships) Scholarship Fund for College of Nursing Athletes.

This gift supports the priorities of Next, Now: The Campaign for Cincinnati, the comprehensive fundraising effort for UC and UC Health.

Wiot has kept close ties with the College of Nursing and is an emerita member of its Board of Advisors. She is also a Bearcat football and basketball season ticket holder and has a deep appreciation for the challenges of student-athletes.

Andrea Wiot “Nurse athletes have my respect, because I just can’t imagine how they can participate in a sport given the workload that nursing students carry,” Wiot said. “There are some pretty amazing students at the College of Nursing.”

Wiot’s UC connections run deep, beginning with her parents, the late E. Hubert and Miriam O. Kockritz, both graduates of the College-Conservatory of Music. Her son and stepson are UC graduates and her late husband, Jerome Wiot, MD,’53, was a professor emeritus in the College of Medicine’s Department of Radiology.

“Andi and her entire family define the meaning of exemplary Bearcats,” said UC President Neville G. Pinto. “She understands that scholarships are a tremendous help to our students so that they can reach their potential and become tomorrow’s citizen-leaders.”

Wiot has played an integral role in the launch of the first Florence Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing event. She said she’s proud of how the college has helped the nursing profession progress.
