Professor Neil Armstrong Memorial Scholarship
When Neil Armstrong passed away in 2012, the University of Cincinnati lost its most famous faculty member. Although he was the first man to walk on the moon, the professor of Aeronautical Engineering seldom spoke of his past accomplishments. This reluctant hero is remembered by faculty and students as a dedicated teacher and an inspiration in the classroom.
In 1969, Armstrong was mission commander on the historic Apollo 11 flight and piloted the Lunar Module “Eagle” to the moon’s surface. After making his “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” trip to outer space, he returned to Ohio and to teaching at UC from 1971-79.
Neil Armstrong remains in the hearts of many who knew him and of his accomplishments. With your help, we will achieve his goal of educating tomorrow’s aerospace engineers through the Professor Neil Armstrong Memorial Scholarship, which will be used to offer scholarship support to incoming undergraduate students in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics.
This is a rare opportunity for you to support UC and the College of Engineering and Applied Science with a tax-deductible donation that will honor a much loved professor and support one of our major initiatives for the college – scholarships for undergraduate students. On behalf of the University of Cincinnati and the College of Engineering and Applied Science, please accept our profound gratitude for your support.
