The Julie Theresa Jones Fund for Faculty and Resident Academic and Research Support in Adrenal Crisis
Acute adrenal crisis is a life-threatening state caused by insufficient levels of cortisol—a hormone produced and released by the adrenal gland. Adrenal insufficiency is a rare condition, not always easy to identify but requiring immediate diagnosis and treatment to resolve.
On May 16, 2018, Julie Theresa Jones died from acute adrenal crisis caused by a lack of cortisol. In Julie’s memory, the fund in her name will support new programs to advance education and scientific research on this condition and to prevent needless death and heartache.
OUR PRIORITIES
Clinician training and education, as well as enhanced research in adrenal crisis, are critical. An endowed fund will provide ongoing funding in both areas, allowing for an annual lectureship to educate clinicians, learners and the community, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and management of adrenal insufficiency. Further, research support will allow residents and fellows—tomorrow’s physician leaders—to conduct new and forwardthinking research.
Thanks to the incredible support of many family and friends, the Julie Theresa Jones Fund has achieved 100% of the initial major goal of $100,000. This is outstanding and we are grateful. Our work continues as we are able to do so much more towards Adrenal Crisis Education and Research. Please consider advancing our efforts even further.
OUR VISION
Adrenal crisis is preventable—but educating and training the next generation of clinicians are essential. With a dedicated effort, we can enhance patient care and outcomes. With research, the future landscape of acute adrenal crisis, as well as cortisol replacement therapy, can lead to a very different outlook than what Julie and her family experienced. We can’t do this alone, and we invite you to join us in this transformative endeavor.
